Vander Jagt for Council
Welcome to the home of Vander Jagt for Council 2010! The campaign will be updating this site frequently with news updates, discussions, campaigning and fundraising plans and goals, position statements, and feedback with Benjamin Vander Jagt.
News Updates
- June 11th, 2010 - Newspaper and online news coverage of our campaign has been very positive. The Winchester Star has published at least two articles, and the Frederick County Observer has an article here
. Northern Virginia Daily has an article here
. All of the articles we've seen have been fair, accurate, and positive. Many people have been asking what they can do to help. Watching this site, becoming informed about what Eminent Domain is, and encouraging friends and family to be active at election time will help the most.
- June 9th, 2010 - The candidacy forms will filled in and turned in to the Registrar's office by the deadline on Tuesday. All is well, except that more names were disqualified from ballot access than were expected. What this means is that we will be running a more uphill battle, because it will be an active write-in campaign, but we have a few things on our side. First, we're the only competing campaign! Second, we have one single polling place, so we can stand at the polling place and hand out cards with the spelling and write-in instructions.
About the Campaign
Benjamin Vander Jagt is the Libertarian Party candidate for City Council for the Third Ward of Winchester, Virginia. The incumbent in this ward is Art H. Major (D) who is seeking reelection. This is going to be an uphill battle, because although the candidacy is qualified, we don't have ballot access. We will need to run a write-in campaign. With your help and a lot of hard work, this is a race we can win! Despite being a write-in campaign, several factors are on our side. Even if there's only one Libertarian in Council voting for liberty and property rights, that one voice can tell the People of the City of Winchester what the government is up to and how the laws really effect us all. Whether or not we win, this ought to be a lot of fun and hopefully very educational for everyone!

"Liberty is, to me, a form of faith. Liberty is a faith in my neighbors. When you live free, it's to your benefit to help others and treat them fairly, because that in turn will help you. I'm blessed to live in a place and time where I can have faith in my neighbors."
